Understand route comparisons
Read distances, savings, alternatives, and timing estimates without confusing assumptions with measured results.
Compare with your original stop order
After calculating a route, review the comparison cards. In More options → Advanced, the Savings Baseline setting controls what the comparison means.
Original requests a separate route using the order you entered. When both calculations succeed, the comparison uses the mapping service’s distance and travel-time estimates for those two orders. This is a comparison of estimates, not a record of a completed trip.
If the original-order calculation is unavailable or still pending, savings have not been measured. A zero in that state does not establish that the routes are identical.
Recognize an estimated baseline
Estimated adds an assumed detour percentage to the calculated route. The region and percentage settings change that assumption. This can illustrate a scenario, but it does not show what your original route would actually have been.
Use Original when you want a comparison with your entered stops. Do not treat illustrative percentage savings, the efficiency score, or estimated emissions as verified financial or environmental savings.
Review route options
The route comparison controls can request available route variants. Read the map and instructions for the selected option before deciding which to use. A shorter route may not suit your stops, access needs, or preferred roads.
Excluded roads checks route instructions for names you enter and warns about matches. It does not force the routing service to avoid those roads. Nearby places and EV charging markers are suggestions; confirm access and availability before relying on them.
Read time and cost estimates
Travel time, traffic, fuel costs, and emissions depend on the inputs and mapping data. Stop durations and time windows can produce schedule warnings, but they are not a guarantee that all appointments can be met.
For budget planning, enter your own efficiency and fuel or electricity price under Advanced, or use the trip cost calculator to include extras and split the total between travelers.
